These are images of our Whale Watching Trip from Newport Beach on March 12, 2013
We had a lot of fog during most of the trip out on the ocean, but was not a bad
trip
considering that we had one Gray Whale and two Fin Whales
along with other species seen (images below for your enjoyment)
- MANY more images of these species on my website -
GRAY WHALE IMAGES
Side views of Gray Whale
Rear view of Gray Whale (from the rear of the animal)
This may very possibly be a younger animal that is on it's first journey north
from Baja California
where it was born, to it's feeding grounds in the Bering Sea of Alaska - where
most Gray Whales
summer and thus why it 'hugged' the shoreline so closely. Most adults are
found further out.
Gray Whale (head to left) barely surfacing - to inhale air before going down
usually for approximately 2-3 minutes
Closer view of head and back of Gray Whale
FIN WHALE IMAGES
Second largest mammal on the planet
Fin Whale - one of the larger baleen whales and a great deal larger animal than
Gray Whale
Fin Whale - side view
Fin Whale about to go down for a long dive as shown by the tail area
(right most of view above) showing a great deal of arch in it
Fin Whale (rear view) showing how massive this animal actually is versus a side
look (above images)
Fin Whale - another rear view showing the formation of what is called the "foot
print" out in front of it's head
- an area of depressed water where a whale goes down below the surface
which can remain for a full minute or more after diving -
COMMON DOLPHIN IMAGES
